A Trailer Valet can handle any sized trailer provided it meets the weight limits of that particular model. We recommend inviting a second person to guide your trailer from the opposite end, especially in tight spaces, as turning requirements can vary widely according to the trailer’s dimensions. Each Trailer Valet model has a high and low gear train. The 5X has a low gear ratio of 12:1 and a high gear ratio of 4:1.
Due to its design, the 5X is ideal for boats and cargo trailers. Yes, it will work on double-axle trailers if the total tongue weight does not exceed a limit of 500 lbs for the 5X.
The 5X supports up to 5,000 lbs. Other Trailer Valet models are capable of supporting variable loads. Each Trailer Valet model can handle its own degree of slope depending on the weight of the trailer and tongue, surface type, and trailer weight distribution. We welcome you to send our support team a picture of the full surface (with clear surface type and angle of slope) including your trailer specs. We can help determine suitability for any of our products and make a recommendation. The MV supports recreational vehicles (RVs), boats, and other similarly sized towable vehicles.
The 5X would require space on the hitch for the mounting bracket. If this space is not available, we would recommend considering one of our coupler/hitch mount options.
To move the 5X, you can use a drill and an optional adapter TVDA (TVDA included with the TV5XDA) using the drill attachment; however, this method should only be used when moving your trailer on level surfaces. To avoid injury, the user should have a firm grip and ensure brake disengagement. We recommend using a cordless, non-impact electric drill with a torque output of at least 200 lb-in. We do not recommend using electric drill attachments other than the one designed specifically for the Trailer Valet; our attachment employs a unique design to ensure a snug fit on the gear axles. The drill attachment can be purchased online or over the phone.
80 psi. *Note: Pneumatic tires that require inflation are only found on older 5X units. New units are solid rubber Only the 5X is able to be put into a stow position. You must crank its wheels off the ground, pull the pin which holds it in a vertical position, rotate the unit horizontally and reinsert the pin. However, this is not possible with any other Trailer Valet unit: they must be removed from the coupler and properly stored before trailering.
Only the 5X is able to be put into a stow position. You must crank its wheels off the ground, pull the pin which holds it in a vertical position, rotate the unit horizontally and reinsert the pin. However, this is not possible with any other Trailer Valet unit: they must be removed from the coupler and properly stored before trailering. The Trailer Valet has an integrated brake which will automatically engage when the handle is released. However, the brake works most reliably on flat surfaces.
Our brake acts as a dead man’s or emergency brake. The Trailer Valet brake hinders all horizontal movement, but cannot slow down during use. Speed is controlled only by the crank. The 5X can operate only on tightly packed grass with hard soil or tightly packed gravel. We do not recommend using any of our models on other soft or loose surfaces. The Trailer Valet will not move on sandy, muddy, rocky, or severely bumpy ground. If you are unsure whether or not your surface is tightly packed enough, send a clear picture of the surface including your trailer specs to our support email.

I used to struggle with

"I used to struggle with backing the camper into my driveway, let alone a small space. This took away ALL of my stress and I felt VERY comfortable setting it up and getting the trailer move. This was the BEST purchase out of anything bought because of my trailer, without a doubt."

Great for my dad's boat

"We got this for my dad so he can push his boat in and out of the garage without making any old back injuries worse. We have an odd angle on the driveway so trailers always have to be pushed in to the garage. This will work great and keep him able to get his boat out for a long time! My mom can even use this to move the boat if she needs to."

Did The Job

"Used 5X Valet to squeeze ~3K LBS camper into narrow opening off of a narrow (seasonally muddy) alley. Total travel was about 15 feet of trailer movement - 5 foot of swinging trailer tongue to square up axles to narrow opening, and 10 feet straight back to give enough room for me to re-hook to truck and finish parking. I knew before hand the valet NEEDS to have a good tongue weight for traction and does not work very well in off road / mud conditions. To remedy I put as much weight forward on the trailer and had an assistant handy to put extra wieght on tongue as needed. I also used 18X18 pavers to create a level path across the terrain for the valet tires roll across and not dig into the earth. I found moving latterally (or swinging the trailer) to work wonderfully. Only one side of the trailer needed to move while the other side was chocked in place. However moving the complete trailer I ran into the tread spinning on the pavers with no trailer movement - which is where the assistant came into play to apply more pressure to the tongue to keep the camper moving. It all came down to tire contact - latterally had weight across both wheels at an angle and straight on we lost that friction to the pavers. We ended up Zig-Zagging or "serpentineing" to finish the forward movement. I really want to give 5 stars because the item did exactly what I needed to and I COULD NOT have parked the trailer without the valet, but I think it could use a slight improvement and easier on the operator if bigger tires or more surface contact tires were an option. I would still recommend the product to a friend - craftsmanship is great, assembly is easy, operation is straight forward with drill or by hand."

Scout Off Road Trailer

"We installed this on a Smittybilt Scout trailer. It is a little short on the height, however it was to be expected. This is my second Trailer Valet, it is a great product and makes moving the trailer in and out of our shop very easy."

Makes light work of moving your trailer around

"This makes moving our Safari Alto around at home so easy, I love it. I can tuck the trailer in our garage for Winter, get it out in Spring, move it around for maintenance, etc. , all by myself. Easy to install, easy to use, highly recommend."

Q&A

I have a 19-foot travel trailer I need to turn around in my backyard. My Nissan Murano is too big as if I drive in frontways I don't have enough room to turn it around so the door faces the right direction and get my car out of the backyard. How can I determine if the valet turn a trailer with little room, almost on a dime?
Hello! Thank you for reaching out! We would love to assist you with this situation, our units a perfect for these cases where your truck just can't get the job done. To further assist you, it would be great to get a photo of your backyard to check out the grass along with the total weight of your trailer and the tongue weight. Please feel free to send this over to support@trailervalet.com and a support tech can assist you. Thank you!
I am looking for a trailer valet 5x. Can I get a notification when they are back in stock?
Hello! Yes you can certainly do so by signing up for the waitlist on our website. I can provide the link here for you. https://trailervalet.com/shop/trailer-valet-5x/ if you have any questions about this process you can also reach out to support@trailervalet.com or give us a call at 844 846 9344 thank you!
Can you advise me when available ?
Hello! Thank you for reaching out to Trailer Valet. Unfortunately there is not an exact lead time but we are hoping to be back in stock by then end of June early July. We do apologize for any inconvenience this creates, please feel free to reach out to support@trailervalet.com if you have any questions thank you!
Does the bracket to hold the jack on trailer come with jack?
Hello! Yes, the mounting bracket comes with the unit! You will have everything in the box to install and operate the unit. Please feel free to reach out to support@trailervalet.com if you have any questions thank you!
How do I make the unit go backwards? The crank only turns in one direction
Hello! Thank you for reaching out. Turning with the crank is quite easy, all you will need to do is move it in the backwards motion. Which will be opposite of the forward motion. I would also make sure your brake handle is disengaged so you can go backwards as well. If you are still not able to do this, please reach out to support@trailervalet.com and a customer service rep can assist you. Thank you!
Hello! I have a question re the TrailerValet 5x. We have a small camper trailer [GeoPro 12SRK] that I'm hoping the TrailerValet can help move. On the plus side, the trailer is well within the 5x weight limits at 1763 lbs UVW with a hitch weight of 258 lbs. On the tricky side, we have a medium length [55 feet], but steep [probably 15% grade] concrete driveway. We're hoping the low weight of the trailer will offset the extra torque needed to get the trailer up the driveway. What do you think?
Hello! Thank you for reaching out! Our units can handle incline, typically 7-9 degrees is what we suggest the max the units can handle. When going up incline you will need tongue weight so the trailer can apply weight to the unit so the unit can have traction to push up the incline. We would suggest adding weight to your trailer if you have any issues when going up the incline. Please feel free to reach out to support@trailervalet.com if you have any issues thank you.
What size box tubing does the 5X fit? I am buying an enclosed trailer and I think it has either five or 6 in. Square box tubing. Will it fit?
Hello! By size box tubing on the trailer are you referring to the frame on the trailer? Where the 5X mounting bracket will fit? This is where the unit will be mounted to. If so, you need at least 8" of clearance. Please reach out to support@trailervalet.com if you have any additional questions. Thank you!
How easy is it to move the 5X between two trailers?
Hello! This can be fairly easy, we would suggest getting a extra mounting bracket so then all you would need to do is take the unit off and not the brackets each time to put it on the other trailer. Please feel free to reach out to support@trailervalet.com if you have any questions thank you!
Having to use one's own hand-drill with the trailer valet seems so rinky-dink!!! Especially when one has to hold the heavy hand drill in place while using the valet. Why don't you have a model with an electric motor built in (or detachable) so that a person can use both hands on the handle to steer? If electric drills can be charged to be used, so could a small electric motor. Even a bracket to hold the elctric drill in place (hands free) would not be so laughable!
Hello! We are sorry to hear you feel this way about our product. We do have other models like the RVR series where all you would have to hold and control is the remote to move the trailer with the unit. These don't require any drill or hand crank. Please feel free to reach out to support@trailervalet.com if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
Hi, I did the find my trailer section and it says the 5xl will work for me. My question is how well does this unit function over grass, grave, hills etc. I could expect from campsites etc. I have a grassy back yard.
Hello! The 5X and our other units work best on flat solid surfaces, but they can in fact be used on different terrains like grass, gravel, and dirt. When you are using it on different surfaces it needs to be flat and compact so the unit can have the traction to move your trailer. If the surface isn’t compacted and flat, we suggest laying down plywood over the surface to get the proper traction needed. Please feel free to reach out to support@trailervalet.com if you have any further questions, thank you!
