Gearing Up for Summer Fun: RV Preparation Checklist

RV Preparation Checklist
Packing for your summer trip doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

Summer is in full gear and it’s the perfect time for a road trip to the coast, a national park, or camping destination. Whether it’s your first trip or your hundredth, an RV Preparation Checklist will help you stay prepared for anything that comes your way on the road or at your destination.

Your RV Preparation Checklist should be a combination of what to bring and what maintenance to perform on your RV or trailer before you go on your adventure.

Whether you’re preparing weeks in advance or your packing last minute (we’ve all done it!), this RV Preparation Checklist will take the stress out of the adventure before your adventure: packing.

RV life means being ready for anything! We don’t want you to be stranded because of routine maintenance or caught without all the supplies you need in the middle of your nature oasis, so let’s dive into this RV Preparation Checklist.

RV Maintenance Checklist

If your RV or trailer has been hibernating, you’ll need to do some basic maintenance checks to make sure it’s up to the task and ready to roll.

  • Check the RV batteries: Per month of no use, batteries can lose up to 10% charge. The batteries are the best place to start your maintenance checklist. Check your maintenance manual to handle batteries carefully, and check the charge, as well as the water levels.
  • Check your RV’s appliances: This includes any propane tanks you use in your RV for hot water, the fridge, or the stove. You should check for leaks and make sure the tanks haven’t expired. Then check your microwave, A/C, or any other appliances.
  • Have the Engine and Generator Checked: You can do this or have this checked by a professional, whatever is most comfortable to you. First, check all the fluids: power steering, transmission, engine oil, coolant, windshield washer, generator oil, and brake fluid. If fluids are low, there may be a leak, so take it in before you hit the road.
  • Make sure your safety measures are in place: If anything should happen during your trip, you want to make sure you don’t get caught without the proper safety tool or aid kit. Check the batteries and operating conditions of your fire extinguisher, PL Gas Leak Detector, Carbon Monoxide Detector, and Smoke Detector.
  • Don’t forget these Miscellaneous items: You’ve checked fluids, safety, and appliances, don’t forget the small things that can fall through the cracks. Be sure to check the gauges, your registration, insurance, emissions stickers, and all lights that are connected between your RV and your trailer.
